No, this is not normal at all. With or without plug-in, with standard edition or with professional edition, you should be able to print docbook-image.xml (i.e. using File|Print). Because, in XXE, if you can view it on screen, you should be able to print it. I've retested this on * Linux/Java 1.5.0_01 with all image toolkit plug-ins, * and on Windows 2000/Java 1.4.2_03 with no plug-in at all, using a Tektronix Phaser 360 (Color, PostScript 2). In both case, this document can be printed (all pages). With Java 1.5, the printed document is even *pretty decent*.
