I'm curious if anyone has experience successfully installing the current Mac
OS X version on a Mac OS X (v10.3 Panther) system?

I recently installed the update to Mac OS X, and today downloaded the
Standard Edition of XXE (xxe-std-24p1.dmg). After completing the download,
the system mounts the disk image and copies a file (package) to my desktop
called XMLEditor. Double-clicking the file causes the application to begin
to start, with a bouncing icon in the dock. That's as far as it goes - I
never get a window and the application is unresponsive to normal quit
commands. It's necessary to force quit the application.

The system log reports the following messages:

Oct 28 13:36:41 localhost /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding:
/Users/dalegardner/Desktop/XMLEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub
could not be launched prebound.
Oct 28 13:36:41 localhost /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: The file
/Users/dalegardner/Desktop/XMLEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub
changed after the prebinding problem was noted.
Oct 28 13:36:41 localhost /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: 2003-10-28 13:36:41
-0500: prebinding for JavaApplicationStub done.

I've tried starting and quitting the app a few times, and have even
restarted the machine. No joy.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Dale Gardner
