Sorry for the bad answer to the FAQ. We were pretty sure it was just a problem with Appple launcher. Even if this seems incredible, Java 1.4.1 seems to be broken on Mac OS X 10.3. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120242 There is little you can do except wait for the next update of Java for Mac OS X.
