I got a mail today telling me that Altova are now giving away their XML content editor "Authentic". XmlSpy is supposed to be the market leader, so I thought it must be worth a look, and I did a little informal benchmark to compare it with XXE, using the sample docbook document they include in the download.
Here are the results of the test, performed on my Pentium 3 600mhz laptop, with 256 k memory, running Win2K: authentic: start-up 5 seconds load 58 seconds insert new para 5 seconds undo insertion 6 seconds xxe: start-up 10 seconds load 12 seconds insert new para 0 seconds undo insertion 0 seconds The new paragraph insertion was performed at the same point (near the top of the document) in both tests. Java-based or not, XXE has world-beating performance. Best regards -------------- Kevin Flynn Birdstep Technology www.birdstep.com Mobile: +47 93433942
