* XXE can run anywhere (the proper version of) Java[tm] can run. It is 
Java[tm] which crashes on your system, not XXE. Hence your problem is 
between the Java runtime you have installed and your version of Unbuntu.

* xxe-std-3_5_2, which was released on February 19, 2007, is no longer 
supported by XMLmind. Note that even if you manage to start Java 
1.6.0_10 on your system (e.g. try the Java demos), I suspect that you'll 
have other problems. In principle, such an old version works best with 
Java 1.4 or Java 1.5.
