This limitation can of course be removed.

This enhancement cannot be implemented in the viewer, editor1 or editor2
applets, which have all been designed from the ground up to display a
single view of a document.

If you need to work on multiple, synchronized, views of the same
document, then you need to use the full-blown GUI of XXE as an applet.

Please run "deploywebstart -applet xxe ..." to give it a try.
