The config from H.Shafie worked well. However, "assembly" elements are a bear to work with, and the toolset isn't quite all there yet. I may have another go at it later, but for now I need to get production out, and so I've fallen back to using "article" in place of "topic" (the latter is a subset of the former) and using xinclude to get the document an "assembly" might produce.
