XMLmind XML Editor is currently hard to integrate to version control systems such as Subversion (SVN). Apparently, TortoiseSVN -- http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ -- solves elegantly this integration problem. We have never really considered integrating XMLmind XML Editor to a version control system because we think that these programmers tools are overkill, much too complicated to use for technical writers. > But if you have suggestions for what application would work well for them to > start > making XML and have rudimentary ability to version-control the files > that works best with your products, I would like to know. XMLmind XML Editor has support for WebDAV servers. (Requires Professional Edition.) Subversion can be configured to function as a WebDAV server. Some of our customers did this. However Subversion as WebDAV server is not easy to configure. We have tested ourselves Subversion as WebDAV server and, at that time, we did not find it really usable: weak support for auto-versioning, a key feature for the comfort of technical writers. In reaction to this, we have developed XMLmind Document Repository. Do you have any > support for PRISM XML? No, not at all. However XMLmind XML Editor being a generic, highly extensible, XML editor, you can add support for PRISM XML if you want. See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/configure/index.html > What is the support for ePub output from DITA or DocBook? Very good. Open a DITA 1.1 map/bookmap or a DocBook 4 or 5 document, select menu item "Map OR Bookmap OR DocBook|Convert Document|Convert to EPUB..." and you are done. (Requires Professional Edition.)
