I'm sorry but I lack some context in order to understand where is the problem. I mean, if I create a new DITA task using "File|New" and then save it to disk using "File|Save As", I have *no* *problem* specifying a filename such as "foo.bar.task" for the save file. Are you talking about the file extension automatically added when the user does not specify one by hand? That is, option "Ensure that a save filename has an extension".
