I can confirm, as a now Mac user myself, XXE 5.4.1 does work OK on my
Mac (OS X Lion, but soon, hopefully, OS X Mountain Lion), both in
standalone mode, and (sorry Hussein for not having written you about
this before, always wanted to, but could not) as a Java applet too.
Even if currently my Java install seems to be a bit broken (have Java6
and Java7 and some apps are using one, other apps are using the other),
XXE deployed as an applet (only tested the full 'xxe' editor applet)
works OK on the Mac (tested mostly with Firefox). There is no more the
need to use the workaround described on the website, I can see and use
the applet without problems.
More information about XMLmind XML Editor on the Mac:
* Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion: The desktop application works
really fine with latest Apple Java 1.6, 32-bit or 64-bit.
* XMLEditor.app (that is, the XMLEditor ``icon'') specifically requests
Apple Java 1.6 32-bit even on a 64-bit system because, the 32-bit Java
runtime seems smaller, faster and seems to eat less memory the 64-bit
Java runtime. (This seems to be the case for all operating systems, not
just the Mac.)
* Lion, Mountain Lion: The desktop application is *usable* with latest
Oracle Java 1.7. However this Java runtime still has its problems. Most
prominent problem: very poor font rendering on screen.
* Mountain Lion: Java Web Start and applet deployment seems to have been
discontinued by Apple. Of course, there is no such problem with Oracle
Java 1.7 (did some tests with latest Safari). However I don't see anyone
who is not a Java developer installing the Java runtime yet.
Hope you can test more thoroughly and then add the required information
on the applet section of your website.
For now, the situation of Java applets on the Mac confuses me, so I
don't know how to update http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/xxe_applet.html
my 0.02
Thank you for this feedback.
