Hi David (& Hussein),

We work on Linux, but it does not matter presently.

Yes, our company uses a global INternet access & proxy detection
mechanism, but we do not use it for internal hosts, for which we use
*no proxies* (at least, this is what we set up in the Network Proxy
settings...).

Actually, I have some doubts about how Java is handling this internally
since we get the same problem -- after additional checkings -- also with
other Java applications... To complete the tests, if I just try to
browse the content of our FTP server, say, ftp://ourFTPhost, From

 2) Firefox (directly from the address field)
 1) XXE (Browse remote files... when selecting an output file for
example)

It works as expected in case 1) (It gives me the content of the FTP
server in the Web page) but not in case 2) (I gives me the same Java
error: "Malformed reply from SOCKS server").

I appreciate your help very much, but don't loose your time on this; it
seems to be more a Java than a XXE related problem...
Best regards,
