I've been using XXE for some years. I've just installed the Evaluation
Edition of 5.5.0 on a different laptop (nojvm installer using the jvm
(build 1.6.0_07-b06) over Windows 7, 64 bit).
It all seems to be working fine except, when typing, the BACKSPACE key
doesn't delete text left, and the DELETE key doesn't delete text right.
Pretty basic stuff.
If I select some text (pink selection), DELETE & BACKSPACE will delete
it. The problem only arises if the cursor is just a vertical line with
nothing selected.
I notice in the release notes that "Pressing DELETE or BACKSPACE may now
be used to delete an empty text node..." Perhaps in fixing these more
esoteric uses of these keys their basic functions of deleting text
backwards and forwards have been broken?
This is unlikely, as we extensively test new releases on several platforms.
But surely someone else would have noticed this.
No. You are the first person to report this problem.
I've searched for a solution before posting, but to no avail.
I'm sorry but we cannot reproduce this problem on our laptop running
Windows 7, 64 bit.
This problem could be caused by a customization which no longer works
with v5.5.
OR
The JVM you use, 1.6.0_07, which is pretty old now, is the cause of the
problem.
OR
You are using an exotic input method (e.g. Japanese).
Please take the time to run XXE v5.5 with a console as explained in this
FAQ:
"XXE seems to freeze when I do such and such action. What's going on?"
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/faq.html#display_exception_in_console
Sending us a copy of the messages printed on this console could help us
diagnose where is the problem.
