We were able to resume access after several hours.

I could not access your sites even from a non-company PC and access route from
outside of our company,
so it seems the reason was not 3) this time.

Right. It was not your corporate firewall or anti-virus software the culprit.

Regarding your FAQ, we were not able to reach any of your web sites at all at
the time, so no way to get
that information or the data anyway.

We had this kind of issue may be 3-4 times in 10+ years. We have no idea why this happened to you in Japan on 02/08/2017. We didn't notice any access problem here in France at the same date.

Please note that we use already use the services of very large, well known, registrar (register.com) and web hoster (OVH) and that our dedicated server has not been down for nearly 2 years. Therefore, I don't see how we could improve the situation.

Is it OK if we download the important add-ons in advance and keep them on our
company internal web
so that we can open them to our users in case of connectivity trouble ?

Sure.

Here's a way to make this as simple and safe as possible for your XXE users:

1) Copy

a) list-7_3_0.xxe_addon

b) *-7_3_0.zip

c) list.xxe_addon (which is a copy of list-7_3_0.xxe_addon)

from http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_download/

(This can be automated using a script which detects the .zip files referenced from list-7_3_0.xxe_addon.)

2) These files are now stored on a web server which is part of your intranet. Let's suppose the add-ons are now found in:

http://blazer.localdomain/xmleditor/_download/

(This is my Linux box. I used it to test this.)

3) Add this property as is to your customize.xxe:

<property name="XXE_ADDON_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION">http://blazer.localdomain/xmleditor/_download/list-${XXE_VERSION}.xxe_addon;http://blazer.localdomain/xmleditor/_download/list.xxe_addon</property>

The XXE_ADDON_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION property is documented here: http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/system_properties.html

4) Let your XXE users install your updated customize.xxe.

5)a) Tell all your XXE users to click "Reset" in Options|Preferences, "Install Add-ons" section. See attached screenshot.

Reference: http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/installAddonsOptions.html

This last step is done once for all.

*OR*

5)b) You may start XXE with command line option -delpref addonServers to force the use of our XXE_ADDON_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION.

References:
* http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/command_line_usage.html
* http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/preferenceKeys.html

From now, your XXE users will no longer use the XMLmind server.

--> Each time a new XXE version is released, e.g. v7.4, please copy

a) list-7_4_0.xxe_addon

b) *-7_4_0.zip

c) list.xxe_addon (which is a copy of list-7_4_0.xxe_addon)

to your intranet server. It's a good idea to keep old 7.3 files in place, on your intranet server, in case some of your XXE users don't want to switch to new version.
