You might check out my 'RandR monitors' proposal - that lets you control the set of output areas independent from the crtc set; xf86-video-dummy could then have *no* CRTCs and still have as many 'monitors' as you like. We need something like this for 4k MST monitor support; seems like it'll be useful for yet another use here. I've posted the protocol revisions, and there's a complete implementation in the library, protocol headers and X server all ready for code review as well. -- -keith
