I think this is the crucial piece of advice. It looks like the radeon
kernel module is getting loaded too late for the X driver to notice that
KMS is enabled.
thanks for your quick answer. I thought so too, but loading the module
via /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf should be early enough - but even if
I load it via grub, which I tried, this message remains.
# cat /etc/default/grub
...
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="radeon.modeset=1"
I did update-grub2 afterwards.
Neither of these has any influence on when the module is loaded. Adding
radeon to /etc/modules may help, otherwise for testing you could boot to
single user mode first, modprobe radeon manually and then switch to
runlevel 2.
ok, I'll try this both and come back then again - that's a new
information for me, I thought that should load the module early enough.
P.S.:
You can answer to the list, I read it ;-)
It's customary on X lists to follow up to individuals directly as well
as to the list. But I can try to remember respecting your wish.
Sorry, didn't see the CC to the list. As long as the message get's to me
I'm happy ;-)
Cheers
