The certificate and its signature are invalid only through the goggles your specific browser is wearing. I suppose we could argue about the benefits and woes of Certificate Authorities themselves for the better part of an eternity, but why don't you just suck it up and impot CACert's class1 and class3 roots into your trusted certificate store?
