And Xournal++ as we call it I think should be it.
Xournal, IMHO, really needs to reach more people and I think the best way
is to move to C++/Qt as that will help (me :D) port it to mobile devices.
I ported the original Xournal to Maemo (Nokia N800 up to the N900) and I
still plan to adapt it to MeeGo (Nokia N9) which is based on, you guessed
it, Qt.
It would also help to port it to Tizen as that is based on EFL which, in
the end, not really THAT much different from GTK+ (or at least, with the
Xournal code as is, should be easier to port to EFL than to Qt).
When I was thinking of the best way to adapt Xournal to scale (and before
Xournal++ appeared), I was thinking of splitting the logic from the UI and
make them communicate by means of some sort of IPC.
I was literally thinking of putting the Xournal logic into a little daemon
(UI-agnostic) and have the UI communicate with it via Unix sockets or
shared memory or similar framework.
Having the logic separated could also make it easier, later on, to add
support for a collaborative version. The UI would not need to care too much
about what is going on or being drawn onto the canvas.
