I remember a link to a summer (or senior, do not remember) project of a
group of student that added a lot of interesting things, like page
previews columns... maybe adding some of this code?

If I can chime in, a thing that I would like see in better shape is
layer behavior. Now when you select a layer you can see all of the lower
layers, and none of the above. It would be nice to be able to select the
visibility of each layer independently (xfig had a very nice interface,
where the layer could be fully visible, invisible, or greyed out) to
the layer where your are writing.

And while a it, a pony^H^H^H^H possibility to select from which set of
layer you copy, and when pasting the ability to paste in the same layers
as the origin, or a flattened version in the current layer.

On another side, it would be nice to have a clearer structure in the git
repositories. Now there are at least two, with several branches, and it
is not easy to know where to look at to test/help development --- and
knowing which branch to test. Or maybe it's just me and I simply need to
read the right instructions... in that case please disregard this note.

Ok, going to sleep here in MST. Thank you all for xournal --- good
night!
