Just so the ideas are out there. These are both reasonably good
suggestions, but the second one is probably not realistic at the moment
given xournal's lack of awareness of the contents of the PDF file. For
the first one, my immediate workaround would be to just place the
favorite images into a favorite folder so as to be able to select them
in two clicks, but perhaps something better could be done. In general,
the overall theme is UI improvements for keyboard/mouse-based PDF
annotation purposes using the text and image tools.

Dennis, thanks very much for making Xournal. I have found it to be a
very handy tool not for journaling, but for filling out PDF forms, which
is a regular event. For linux it seems to be the best tool.

If I might be so bold as to make some suggestions (always rude without
patches, I know) may I put forward:

a) It would be nice if you could tell it to remember a particular image
file, namely the file with your signature in it, and somehow provide an
easy UI to add that signature with just a few clicks, rather than having
to do a generic image add and find the file. A "Sign" tool on the
toolbar could be a typical UI.

b) Some other PDF annotators go further. They analyse the PDF where you
click, looking at the white and black space to try to figure out where
the bounding box is, if it's a box, or the line, if it's a line, and
then can provide an automatic placement of the cursor for typing, as
well as a font size to fit. This is a much more advanced thing, while
the first suggestion is much simpler. They can also be combined, in
that the tool can look at the bounding box and pick a size for the
signature, within limits of course!

Thanks again.
