Hi everyone,

I thought I'd send a bit of spam to see who else might be grappling with
a Gnome-3 bug that causes display freezes on pen+touch systems when the
pen and touchscreen devices get used simultaneously (e.g., hand on
screen while writing). This seems to at least affect Thinkpad Yogas with
Fedora 22, and perhaps some others too.

Anyway, this has been reported as a bug against Gnome Shell
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=753527) even though I'm not
100% sure whether it's Gnome Shell or some other component that's
causing it.

If like me you are desperate for a quick workaround so that you can
actually use your Yoga with F22 or other affected distributions (are
there any? is this a Fedora-specific issue? are other models affected or
is this specific to the Thinkpad Yoga?), there's a temporary fix. I just
wrote a small tool that disables the touchscreen when the wacom pen
reports proximity to the screen. It's only had a few hours of testing so
far, so use at your own risk.

(installation instructions for common use scenario are included in
README file)

This doesn't fix the underlying gnome-shell issue, of course, and you'll
still notice gnome-shell freezing the display when using the touchscreen
and a touchpad/mouse/... (anything other than a wacom pen, really) at
the same time -- but I don't see any compelling reason to want to do so.

This might also be useful to anyone who's lamenting the lack of "pen
disables touch" feature OS-wide (at least I don't think there's one) --
it's always annoying to hit something important with the wrist while
writing in xournal and end up closing windows or doing other stupid
stuff by accident.

Feedback welcome.

Denis
