Right, I guess I should rephrase my question as: of the various products
available, which performs best under Linux/XFree86 4.x through the DVI
port using GPL drivers? Of course, if the DVI port is not supported,
that's 0 performance. :-)
Below is a list of possibilities culled from pricewatch.com, as a starting
point for discussion. Any information on the Xfree86 4.x performance and
DVI port support of these chipsets would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Wayne

Brand Chipset Memory Price
----------- -------------- ---------- -----
Number Nine S3 Savage4 16MB SGRAM $18
Number Nine TNT2 32MB $29
Celesta Geforce 256 32MB SDRAM $43
ATI Rage 128L 32MB SGRAM $59
ATI Radeon VE 32MB DDR $67
PowerColor Geforce2 MX400 64MB SGRAM $83
Matrox G550 32MB DDR $102
Note that there were many more products based on the NVidia chipsets, I
just picked out the least expensive one for each chipset. For comparison,
in December, 2000 I paid $150 plus shipping for a Matrox G400 16MB SDRAM
with the DVI daughtercard.
