I posted a message a few days ago regarding a lockup I was experiencing with my linux system when I tried to run X 4.x in dual head mode, with my 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI as primary and my ATI Rage II+ (Mach 64 GT) as secondary. I didn't receive a reply from the group, but I played around with it a little more anyway. I managed to get the two heads working together when I changed the ATI card section to use the vesa driver instead of the ati driver. I basically commented out everything but the PCI bus ID, and changed 'driver' to "vesa" and it worked. I suppose that there's probably some accelleration that I'm not getting, but since my second monitor is 640x480 BW vga, I intend to use it only for displaying a big Xclock and reading man pages while I program on the main head so accelleration isn't that important. I just thought someone here might like to know this, since it points out a bug probably in the ati driver. So a recap: Voodoo3 2000 PCI primary ATI Rage II+ (Mach 64 GT according to BIOS) secondary XFree86 -configure finds both System locks up if I try to use both cards at once (hard lock... no network or anything). Both cards work independantly. DRI/DRM turned on/off makes no difference XFree86 from Redhat 7.1 or XFree86 4.1.0 from Redhat 7.2beta both have the same trouble Upgraded kernel DRI/DRM modules, no luck Added ModeLines for monitors, no luck Once in a while, it would seem to work except the ATI head was garbled (but no system lock). Replaced ati driver with vesa driver and it works. Thanks, Mark _______________________________________________ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
