OK, according to my logs (after I have narrowed down the range as per
Michaels suggestion) says I am using this mode:

[...]
(**) GLINT(0): Mode "1280x1024a": 135.0 MHz, 78.1 kHz, 72.1 Hz
[...]

The data of my monitor are:

Model: A1097C
Max Resolution: 1280 x 1024
Sync Type: Sync on Green
H Freq/ V Freq: 78.125 khz / 72.008hz
Monitor Type: fixed

Again, the picture is badly scrambled, scrolls through the screen like
crazy, and the colors are a mess.

Any further ideas?

Thanks,
Kai
