Hi, thanks in advance for reading this. Anyway, I have a Dell Inspiron 8000, with a
Geforce 2 Go, KRUD (RH 7.1), and the 2.4.3 kernel. I dled the latest drivers from
NVidia's website, but the ones for RH 7.1 didn't work, so I used the kernel for
Mandrake 8, and the RH 7.1 glx. That's because I got a message when installing the glx
for 7.1 that i needed the right kernel, and when I got the 7.1 kernel, I got an error
saying I wasn't using the right Linux kernel (2.4.2). I guess I could recompile down
to 2.4.2, but I don't want to, and it seems like there's gotta be a better way to do
it. Can anyone think of one?
Thanks, Abe
P.S. Everytime I try to go into X, I get a lot of weird horizontal lines of different
colors, and it doesn't respond to ctrl+alt+f1, etc. I tried following the instructions
NVidia provides, but I'm extremely new to Linux (read, one day experience), so I could
easily have screwed up somewhere. Please, someone help! I'm doing this from Lynx, for
crying out loud! I have to boot into runmode 3 (which is kinda neat, I guess, in a
retro sort of way). Anyway, I really appreciate any help you guys can provide. Thanks
again.
