I tried posting this on Newbie for 3 days and got no response, so I hope
this is the right place, but if not, please don't bash me:

I successfully ran "make World" on a Debian Linux box with glibc22. "make
install" produced a problem when it invoked "ld" with -lz (and many other
options), the compiler reported an "-lz not found" error and stopped. The
install file states that GNU ld and as are not compatible with XFree86
4.1.0. So, assuming this is the cause of my error and since they are the
default linker and assembler for Debian, what is the workaround?

Thanks,

Bud Roth
