Hello, I am sure this is not the proper place to ask. My other attempts to get info in newsgroups and (XFree) mailinglists go unanswered. Apparently my thingy is not trivial. You patience and input will be enormously appreciated.
I have a Dutch keyboard layout (running SuSE 7.1). I have learned a long time ago that if a map configuration is absent, XFree will use the default Linux kernel keyboard map. In my case this is a Dutch map (ofcourse). So until now I could perfectly use my Dutch keyboard --including all special characters, ALT-GR stuff, etc-- without any xmodmap/xkeycaps configuration, using just the following lines in XF86Config: Section "Keyboard" Protocol "Standard" LeftAlt Meta RightAlt ModeShift EndSection Recently I have upgraded from 4.0.1 to 4.1.0 and this approach doesn't work anymore. I have tried numerous things but XFree refuses to use the Linux kernel keybaord map. Most obvious seems to "translate" the original keyboard section to the new XF86Config file format. But until now all my attempts have been unsuccessful. Does this mean I really have to go to the painful process of defining a specific keyboard map using xmodmap or xkeycaps? (there are no good Dutch maps) Does anyone know how the get XFree 4.1.x to honor the default kernel keymap? Is this a bug in 4.1.0? (Just kidding. I must somehow justify posting to this list, right?:-) Thanks a bunch, -- ---------------------------------------------------- Koos Pol T: +31 20 3116122 Project Analyst F: +31 20 3116200 Compuware Europe B.V.
