I have compiled the xf86 cvs (Dec 14th) and tested it on my laptop. (sis 630 / lcd screen) The screen was initialized nearly correct (vesafb was't activated) at 8bpp and 16bpp colordepths. The only problem there was that the whole screen was moved up around 30 pixels so there was a black bar at the bottom. At 24bpp the screen flashed between black and white a short time and then X exited with an error message. I have attached the X start-log files. -Andre.
