Well I have a mobility with mach64. dpms didnt work with 3.x and was screwed with 4.0.3 (like it claimed the backlight was on even if it was off) but with 4.1.0 it seems to work ok.
Luckily my notebook has a little button that can be programmed to turn the
backlight off and gets automatically pressed if you close notebook.
