Hi.

I have a ATI Rage Mobility P/M 4Mb with a 1024x768 TFT screen on my
laptop with RHL 7.2 and XFree 4.1.0.

For some applications (playing games and watching movies) I've found
that is better to use lower screen resolutions to achieve a higher frame
rate.

First I tried to use a 512x384 mode to get integer scaling and better
performance, but XFree complained that it was not a valid mode. My first
question is if it's possible to configure a 512x384 mode for a LCD
screen and how?

Then I tried the standard 640x480 mode and for my surprise I didn't
notice any downgrade in the speed. My second question is: What makes the
rescaling after all: the graphics card itself or a dedicated LCD
controller?

Unfortunately not everything is a bed of roses.. Besides the expected
blur due to the non-integer scaling there are two annoying green
vertical lines placed 1/4 and 3/4 of the horizontal length of the
screen. This must be a bug since this behavior isn't noted on Windows.
Has anyone ever noticed this?

Regards,

Jose Fonseca
