Vikram,

I'm sorry but I still don't know what is your final purpose on building
XFree86.

I don't know if you're aware but the X system is composed by two parts -
the X server and the client libraries - which are completely seperate
(comunicating between them via TCP/IP). That's why you can run on Linux a
remote X aplication running on Windows (or other OSs) and vice-versa. That
also means that you can use on your system X client libs from one source
and a X server from a 3rd party.

AFAIK, the XFree86 tree doesn't have a X server for Windows. The
Win32-X11 project (http://sources.redhat.com/win32-x11/) was trying to
change that and is your best bet if you want an X server and you will also
get the client libs at the same time.

Regarding the client libs they built in MSVC from long time with the
version from the X consortium (http://www.x.org). I've done it myself
about two years ago. I don't remember the exact steps but since I also
don't remeber any particular difficulty it surely were the steps indicated
in the documentation. I suppose you can also do that with XFree86 but I
really don't see any advantage on it.

I hope I'm not saying any mistake since I'm not a close watcher of these
projects. If I'm wrong someone in the xpert ml please correct me.

Anyway you should always put more clearly you intents and explaining
specifically what is going wrong otherwise it is very difficult to help.

Regards

Jose Fonseca
