It compiled fine, here:

XFree86 Version 4.1.99.5 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
Release Date: 7 January 2002

libHAL extracted from mga-133_143-source.tgz

Although it seem to take much longer to initialize the graphic-mode (>5
seconds?). I was running a 4.1.0 with an older libHAL (I do not know
which libHAL it was before ...)

When I bought my MGA-450 libHAL was needed to get any signal out of
the card - I think today it is only needed for TV or DVI output and a
sepcial (merged?) Dual-Head mode (also if have not tested this - I
only use it with the libHAL (because it also worked this way ;-) ).

The snapshot I made can be found here:
ftp://drocklinux.dyndns.org/software/xfree/xfree-cvs-2002-01-14.tar.bz2

A precompiled binary for the dRock distribution can also found in the
2002-01-17 directory of this server ;-)
