Shawn, Try using XFree 4.2. XFree 4.1 does not have full support for the Radeon 8500. XFree 4.2 is better but the DRI for the Radeon 8500 still doesn't support OpenGL. Xig's Summit Workstation does have OpenGL support for the Radeon 8500 but I haven't tried it. They do however allow you to download a trial version which will for 30 minutes a session.
