Hi all,
I'm running Xfree 4.2.0 on an ATI Radeon VIVO (now known as Radeon 7200, according to
ATI new specifications) under Debian 3.0 Woody.

First of all, my system :
Athlon 1.2 GHz
512Mo PC133 / 2x IBM DTLA30 30 Go => 60Go
MSI K7T Turbo mainboard (VIA KT133A chipset)
Terratec 512i Digital sound card.
Using Window Maker at 1280x1024x24.

My problem : I find 2D acceleration pretty poor. Despite I compiled a kernel without
even sound drivers and with agpgart, when moving quickly a window (for instance, the
gdm window after boot), the movement isn't smooth at all : it looks choppy. I tried
everything (kernel, upgraded from XFree86 4.1.0 to 4.2.0, tried to optimise the
XF86Config-4 file), but nothing to do : it is far to be as fast as under Win98 (sorry,
I like playing 3D games). Remember, I'm talking about 2D acceleration, not 3D.
A friend of mine running on a Mach64 doesn't have any problem ... on a P2 266 !

Although I tried to read the mailing list archives, I didn't really found the solution
to this. I have read somewhere that disabling DRI would accelerate 2D displaying, but
it doesn't work for me.

Does someone have the solution (marvellous) or just want to help me ? Are there
special options for the ati drivers that increase speed ? Any answer would be very
appreciated.

Regards,
Michel
