firstly, thanks for use of bandwidth. secondly, read an article the otherday about Linux dying on the desktop and OSX w/ darwin taking its place.
my question is what would it take to get XFree up to par w/ other gui servers. how posible is it to make the following changes. 1. font server w/ the ability to add and remove fonts. we already have font smoothing, when do we start working on making the adding and removing of fonts easy. 2. sound server that has better response time than current linux sound servers. this would allow linux distros to not worry about having to work w/ other servers just to get sound. 3. print server w/ gui front end that would allow all aps to hook into it and not worry about what print server they had installed. I currently use cups, but there are tons of apps that have a hard time working w/ it. this would also give a common interface for all apps to use. I currently use linuxfromscratch w/ xf 4.1 freetype and cups. this has allowed me to have the best version of Linux that I have ever run. However, it would be even better w/ updates that would allow easier modifications of the system. this could also speed up the creation of applications for Linux, making it an even better developing OS. thanks again for the bandwidth. -- Do or do not, there is no try. --Yoda Jared Lyvers IT Admin Interactive Developer lowdownandirty.com _______________________________________________ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
