 Sorry for the really late reply ...

 This might actually be a problem with the hardware.  We have a bunch
of Dell machines at work which have on-board M64 graphics, and many of
them developed a problem similar to what you describe (grey lines that
extend across the screen).  Dell replaced the boards.  I'm not sure
that this helps you any, but I thought you should know before you tear
your hair out looking for problems with drivers or whatever.
