it appears that i have found a fix: disable Option "DPMS" of the VESA framebuffer driver. ,----[ Option "StandbyTime" "time" ] | sets the inactivity timeout for the "standby" phase of DPMS mode. time | is in minutes, and the value can be changed at run-time with xset(1). | Default: 20 minutes. This is only suitable for VESA DPMS compatible | monitors, and may not be supported by all video drivers. It is only | enabled for screens that have the "DPMS" option set (see the MONITOR | section below). `---- but why the crash? my theory is that because it's a dell machine, and as we all know, michael dell and bill gates are sleeping with each other -- it wouldn't be the first time that a dell computer somehow doesn't work with linux... -- martin; (greetings from the heart of the sun.) \____ echo mailto: !#^."<*>"|tr "<*> mailto:" net@madduck a good scapegoat is nearly as welcome as a solution to the problem.
