So then, (just trying to get everything clear here) from looking at the
source, in 4.2.0, kdrive uses the FreeType library in /extras/FreeType
(FreeType 1.3.1), but doesn't use the Xft library, and doesn't use XftConfig
then.  

Got it.

So then, I can't use the substitution features of Xft, and I have to fall
back to fonts.alias?
