Solution  1 : use XFree86 3.3.6 (install corresponding packages)
Solution 2 : use framebuffer by configuring either vesafb (standard) or 
geodefb (found on http://www.eason.com/linux/) in your linux kernel. 
That is a bit harder, as you'll have to build a kernel, but you will get 
the advantages of XF4. For that solution, read the source ...
