My config is at http://www.dpmms.cam.ac.uk/~werdna/xfree86-devel/XF86Config-4.G550+MLA There is a lot of historical stuff in there; Monitior section "SGI Multilink", Device section "G550-dvi" and Screen section "G550-MLA" are probably the most relevant. I use bleeding edge CVS XFree86, and do use the HAL. I get the brief blanking once or twice a day; since the Multi-Link Adapator converts the DVI signal to the format my monitor uses that could be removing or causing the blanking. Equally the DVI output is only rated at 1280x1024 and I'm driving it at 1600x1024, so that could be related. Note that flat panels may note need as long a horizontal blanking time (fly-back) as CRTs. Does the DDC info in /vsr/log/XFree86.0.log suggest any modelines that the monitor likes ? Unfortunately XFree86 doesn't automatically use the modelines provided by DDC. -- Dr. Andrew C.
