How much of the original code ended up in the parts of xf4vnc that
need to be built as modules? If the protocol is just copied, but not
the code is there a problem? Then just the original tools such as
vncviewer would remain GPL'ed and could be distributed
separately. Barring that, what about asking the original authors.

I'm not trying to hassle you, its just that I know supporting code
that is not integrated in to the base installation is a pain as you
have to keep up with changes that other people make, the result being
that you fall behind in the keeping the code upto date.
