I'm not sure what you mean by the 2d vs 3d distinction.

If you're referring to the changes I committed in November (which fix
refresh rate handling amongst other things), then they're not easily
separated out.  I ended up rewriting significant parts of the 2D driver,
including the mode handling.  I don't have the time (or inclination) to
go back to the old version of the driver.  It's a can of worms, which
is why I opted for the rewrite in the first place.
