Hello,

I am writing this email to notify you I had the same problem as Mikkel
Lauritsen with my nForce motherboard graphics.

The XFree86 drivers in the XFree86-4.2.0-72 RPM package which comes with
RedHat 8.0 do not work with nForce properly.

When doing a RedHat 8.0 install I need to use textmode or else I get a
black screen and need to hard reset the computer to reboot.

I sent RedHat a bug report while RedHat 8.0 was still in beta but they did
not fix it in the final release:

'X -version' returns:

I compiled and installed XFree86 4.2.0 myself and it didn't work either.
Boy is that compilation process longwinded or what?

Your CVS 'nv_drv.o' works fine for me. Opera menu fonts actually look ok
now and they didn't when I used the NVIDIA driver. ;-)
It does seem to be a bit slower however...

I needed to use 'startx -- -ignoreABI' like you mentioned.

Thank you, I was getting tired of having X server problems with those
buggy NVIDIA drivers. :-)
