The text/font bug is there! GNU Emacs 22.3, which has clear text,
lands in /, that's its working directory. (Xterm is OK,
XTerm*loginShell: true is set.)
1) XQuartz X11.app:
Install XQuartz 2.2.0, then step through each XQuartz release to
find the problem. This should help me isolate atleast which major
version caused the change, and I can probably have you drop in some
intermediate server versions to figure out a smaller step. Based on
your earlier comments, I suspect that 2.2.3 will work and 2.3.0 will
be the first version that has your emacs issue.
This looks as if I would need to install some earlier package...
Before I start I think I need to clear a few things. Because some file
dates don't look correct (the version numbers of quartz-wm and
libXplugin come from my yesterday tries):
