That's quite easy using the X11-RDP-omatic script.

Wonderful. Have you tried

mplayer -vo gl
mplayer -vo gl2

to see how it compares to

mplayer -vo x11

?

I want to try this but we are mostly using xrdp on multiuser VMs. I will need a 
dedicated box with NVIDIA GPU for this test. That may be happening in the near 
future.

IIUC, you are using VirtualBox with xfreerdp on the physical xrdp host. What 
happens if you connect from a different terminal? Would be interesting to see 
know the result is still smooth over a Gigabit connection.
