Sheila,
Most beads will lay with the two holes running horizontal to the fabric, not
up and down. The only ones I've used that aren't that way are more that I
would call the button embellishments, and of course they lay flat. The way
I do it, and others may have other ways, is run my thread through a few
stitches on the back, come up through the bottom left corner of the square
I'm putting the bead in, slide a bead on, go down through the top right
corner of the square. You could go through whatever holes you want, but be
consistent because the beads will look funny if use you a different hole
combination each time. Also, most patterns don't specify a thread color to
use to put the beads on and I've always been told to pick a color either
close to the fabric color or close to the bead color.
I hope this helps and makes sense.
Susan

Hi All,
I have two questions to ask, one is how to sew beads onto pieces of work, I
have never used beads and am at total loss, should the whole in the bead
face upwards or to the side? Etc
Next, I want to start organising my threads onto plastic bobbins ( I have
used cardboard up till now, but they are tatty and torn ).I was told by my
local shop to write the numbers of the thread onto the plastic bobbins with
a permanent marker pen. I have brought three different types and still the
numbers rub off even when left to dry over night, the pen I got today
actually says permanent marker on it and that it is suitable even for glass
or metal. Any suggestions of what else I can try.
Sheila
