I guess I'm a little different, I tend to do Xstitches with people or specific objects in them (such as houses, an animal) so I can usually tell where I am. I do them start to finish (usually, unless really bored) so I am so in touch with which symbol is which color that I rarely get lost. I use one of those Lo-ran pattern finders with slight magnification and a red line to show which line I am on.
