<<The book was fun to read. A simple murder mystery with some nice familiar
surroundings ... a needlework shop called Crewel World. The characters were
distinct and fun ... you could imagine running into just these folks at your
own local shop.
I give it a thumb's up!
Usual disclaimers. I just enjoyed the read! OH ... and I hear Meri Abrams
(guide at Crossstitch at The Mining Company) is also reading it. Anyone else
read it and have an opinion?>>

Hi XStitchers!

Yep, I got the book as soon as Cameo told me about it!

Got a big laugh when I went to the bookstore. I could not find it on the
shelf; so I asked the clerk to check for "Crewel World." I spelled it for
him *C R E W E L* He punched away at his computer and said, "Lady, there is no
such book." "That can't be, I know it has been just published." So I spelled
it again. He got a funny look on his face .... one that says "I know this
lady doesn't know how to spell, but I'll type it just as she says .. " ....
OH my goosssshhhh, there it is! It's on order!!! <g>

I went next door to the grocery ... and found it myself <g>!

I read the book on a Saturday. As Cameo says, it was a nice read. I don't
read a whole lot of mysteries .. don't have time, so I can't be too much of a
critic.

But in a little way I was disappointed. not sure what I expected .. maybe a
little bit more suspense ... a little more intrique??? To me, it was the
same old same old ... put in stitch.

I wonder if we are so thrilled over it because it talks about rctn and topics
close to our hearts? I kind of question how it might portray needleworkers
to the rest of the world, not that I expect them to be sitting down and
reading it.

If another one is published in the series, will I buy it and read it ... well
of course! But I think the plot could have been a little better ... there is
a whole lot of plot going on in the world of stitchery right now ... I wonder
what kind of a novel could be written .. but hey, I'm not going to be the one
to suggest it. (or am I ????)

In a word, I'd give the book a high C+ / B- (with my thumbs up, anyway) ...
enjoy the book. We get too little recognition as needleartists in this world.
I'd just like to see it a little more interesting and bit more of a plot.

What else have I been reading? A book called "Plain and Fancy" ... a
needlework history book which covers needlwork in early American history,
written by Susan Burrows Swan. What one part of the book has intrigued me so
far ... well there was a statement to the effect that a large portion of early
needlework was done from patterns by then-prominent designers. The more
creative attempts by ordinary "people" tended to get less attention. (my
paraphrase) I found that very interesting.
