There is at least one case when you may need "g" : To update the list of revision of one of your partners. Another one is in the *tla-changes* buffer. I plan to automatically add "M file" lines at the beginning of the buffer when you save a file, but it would be too costly to update the diff part on saving. So, "g" is also necessary here.
