1. Is it reasonable to include gstreamer in xubuntu?
2. Is totem a good choice (I've never used it myself)?
3. Other proposition(s) for multimedia?

Can I say this I HATE ToTEM. It is difficult to use. It is not straightforward. It is Processor intensive and I don't understand why people would use it.

Sure rank all options. But I personally think that GXine is a far lighter and far better option. IMHO.

Other Options
Xine
Xmms
etc.

Cheers

    Hi list,

I've seen that totem can be built without gnome libs (and it uses
debhelper, so multibuild is doable). It uses gstreamer, which I guess
is a good option for multimedia.
I'd like to get points of vue on a few aspects:

    1. Is it reasonable to include gstreamer in xubuntu?
    2. Is totem a good choice (I've never used it myself)?
    3. Other proposition(s) for multimedia?

I agree that we need to fix the multimedia in xubuntu. Weather it's going to be a gstreamer or xine based app we'll see, but it's good to know that totem can run without gnome libs. It depends also on how xfmedia evolves in the following months but if we can share apps with ubuntu that is
preferable.
