Hi everybody !!
Finally I am back.
After fixing my internet conexion problem I've got the screen of my spare
laptop broken. Fortunately, I've got it fixed yesterday just in time to
download feisty-desktop-i386 (version 22-mar-2007) to initiate my first
test. It didn't work. After checking system reqs, I realized that I have
only 96mb of ram so I downloaded the alternate version. It worked! The only
thing is that installation process (oem user) took about 12 hours !!!! (I
think that my poor laptop will not be able to make the next release of
xubuntu). Probably I will be using my extra partition on my official laptop
(I know we need best to test on exclusive hardware but is what I have by
now).
I will update launchpad with my results.
I am very proud of my first experience.
Best regards.

Jani,

The xfce4-panel didn't start in my live session of the most recent
(2007/03/22) i386 live cd. Unfortunately, my i386 box isn't networked
right
now, so I can't do much to get you the backtrace.

Is there a bug (or set of bugs) that you're following for this, or the
other
recent xfce-related crashes?

As a note, xfce4-panel worked properly on the actual installed system
after
I completed the install - just didn't appear in the live session. Thanks,

Jim

Hi Everyone,

As you know, I'm still in the hospital. The good news is that I'll be out
in
3-4 weeks but the bad news is that I might not have Internet for awhile as
I'll be moving once I get out of the hospital. I'll be sure to keep in
touch
regardless.

Anyhow, I don't have a lot of time but I would like to give a big thanks
to
the xubuntu-devel team, jmaz, adam, vincent, thesheep (can't spell your
real
name), Jim (HUGE thanks for doing the testing stuff - keep up the awesome
work), and everyone else who helps make Xubuntu rock! Sorry I can't name
everyone by name but I want everyone to know that I _really_ apprecaite
your
contributions and I'd love to hear about them (so feel free to e-mail me).

Thanks a bunch everyone! I look forward to rocking with you all for
feisty+1

With love, :)

Cody

Hey, I hope you don't feel like I'm spamming now or something, but I
thought
it might be interesting for users considering the upgrade to Xubuntu
Feisty
to test it to see the upgrade process. That's why I've made lots of
screenshots which I've blogged about here:
http://xubuntublog.wordpress.com/2007/03/21/risking-the-update/

Sorry if it's too much self-promotion, I won't do it again ;)

This used to happen in edgy as well with only 128M of RAM, is that your
case by any chance?

I am not sure, there was a surge in crasher bug reports in the past week,
which I hope is
helped by the latest upload of libxfce4util two days ago. People reporting
crashes today
can still be a few days behind latest so it will take a while to know
whether that package really fixes
many of the fce4-session and xfdekstop4 crashers

It would make sense if it's because of limited memory, even though it's a
shame to have regressed from dapper
in that regard :( . The trash plugin and system-tools-backends are two
apps which I think are there and were not
before. I'll wait to see if you indeed have 128M before going too deep
into this.

Hi,

hopefully when you get out we'll be close to a really good xubuntu release
waiting to be used ;)

best wishes
Jani

Jani,

I have a rather odd setup with 448mb of RAM. It is only on a PII-400
machine, though. Perhaps that could be part of the issue if you are
concerned about computing power.

I am drafting a message to the listserve to recruit a few more
testers. As
of now, I am the only one to report test results on the beta images that
were released yesterday. Hopefully we can see if others are having
similar
problems.

Thank you for your help!

Jim

Hello,

Thanks to all of your help in testing the releases prior to the release of
the first beta. At this time, we're still in need of some test reports
for
Xubuntu.

Because we seem to be a bit thin on test reports at the moment, and the
beta
is set to be released tomorrow, it is most important that we at least test
for the i386 architecture. Here are the links for reporting your results

* i386 desktop <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-iso-tests/+bug/93132>
* i386 alternate <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-iso-tests/+bug/93133>

If we have adequate coverage on those two items (or if you do not have an
i386 computer) please test on an AMD64-based computer:

*AMD64 desktop <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-iso-tests/+bug/93134>
*AMD64 alternate <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-iso-tests/+bug/93135>

As a note, each "bug" has general instructions on what to do to test and
to
report your tests, so please see the "bug" description for helpful links
and
information. :-)

For those of you who have provided test reports recently, we did have some
relatively last-minute changes to the ISOs which required us to "reset"
the
test results in the past few days. Although it can feel disappointing,
it's
all part of the testing process . . . it's because of tests like ours
that
we're able to find bugs, and fixing those bugs ultimately leads to better
releases. :-) Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions,

Jim
